Quick answer: Admissions and enrollment management software handles the journey from a student’s first enquiry to the first day of class: applications, documents, reviews, decisions, offers, fees and enrolment. As of October 2026, colleges commonly use Slate by Technolutions, Salesforce Education Cloud, Ellucian Recruiting and Admissions, TargetX (now part of Liaison) or Embark, with Kira Talent for video and written assessments. K-12 private and independent schools use Finalsite Enrollment (formerly SchoolAdmin), VenturEd Solutions (formerly Senior Systems) or PowerSchool Enrollment. For scholarships, awards and programme applications, SurveyMonkey Apply, Submittable and Evalato are common choices.

Student Admissions Software

Admissions season can overwhelm a school or college office: paper forms, email attachments, missing documents, reviewer spreadsheets and fee reminders. Admissions software puts the whole process online, gives applicants and families a portal to track their status, lets staff review and decide in one place, and reports on where each applicant is in the funnel. Many tools also include marketing features to attract and nurture prospective students.

We first published this list as “15 Best Admissions and Enrollment Management Software”. When we checked every product in October 2026, several had new owners or names, one entry turned out to be a duplicate, and two could not be confirmed. The list below has the 12 products we verified on their official websites.

How to choose admissions and enrollment software

  • Your institution type. Higher education tools focus on recruitment CRM, application review and yield. K-12 tools focus on family enquiries, waitlists and lotteries, re-enrolment, contracts and tuition. Scholarship and programme tools focus on forms and reviewer workflows.
  • Application and document handling. Check configurable forms, document uploads, recommendation letters, application fee collection and a status portal for applicants.
  • Review and decisions. Look for reviewer assignment, scoring rubrics, committee views and bulk decision letters.
  • Integration with the student information system (SIS). Admitted students should flow into your SIS and billing without re-entry.
  • Local requirements. Most products here are built for US, Canadian or European institutions. Schools and colleges in India should check support for local fee structures, reservation categories, Indian payment gateways and data protection under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or consider a local school ERP.
  • Accessibility and mobile use. Many families apply from a phone, so test the applicant experience on mobile.

The 12 admissions tools in detail

1. Salesforce Education Cloud

Salesforce’s Education Cloud is built on its CRM and covers recruitment and admissions, academic operations, student success, advancement and alumni relations, communications and lifelong learning, with a K-12 edition. As the original article said, it connects staff, students and alumni on one platform. Salesforce publishes Education Cloud pricing on its site; most institutions also budget for an implementation partner.

2. Kira Talent

Kira Talent describes itself as a holistic admissions solution for higher education. Programmes add on-demand, timed video and timed written assessments to the application, plus live interviewing and reviewer services, to judge traits such as leadership and critical thinking beyond grades and test scores. It is used by business, law, medical, dental and other health professions programmes. The original article’s “300+ schools” and rating figures have been removed because they could not be checked against a dated source.

3. Finalsite Enrollment (formerly SchoolAdmin)

SchoolAdmin’s website now redirects to Finalsite Enrollment. Finalsite says it supports schools from the first enquiry to the first day: attracting families, managing applications, communications and documents, waitlists and lotteries, reporting, integrated tuition and billing, and AI chat assistance for families. It serves independent, international, charter and Catholic schools and districts.

4. Submittable

Submittable is application and grant management software. For education, its scholarships and fellowships and awards management tools let universities and foundations collect applications online, route them to reviewers and manage awards in one place. As the original article noted, it is better suited to scholarships and programmes than to full degree admissions.

5. Evalato

Evalato is awards management software for collecting entries, managing judging and selecting winners; its current version is Evalato 2.0. It offers unlimited free testing with no credit card. It fits award and competition programmes better than student admissions, which is how the original article described it too.

6. SurveyMonkey Apply

SurveyMonkey Apply is application management software for grants, scholarships, fellowships, programme admissions and sponsorships, with tools to collect and review applications, automate workflows and manage programme budgets. As the original article said, it suits institutions that review applications for scholarships and special programmes.

7. PowerSchool Enrollment

PowerSchool, a major K-12 software company, still lists Enrollment among its products alongside its student information system. The original article described online school choice and lotteries, registration forms, student contracts, athletic sign-ups and policy sign-offs; PowerSchool’s dedicated Enrollment page was not available when we checked, so confirm the current feature set with PowerSchool.

8. Slate (Technolutions)

Slate, from Technolutions, is a widely used admissions and CRM system for colleges. It covers admissions and enrollment, student success, and alumni and advancement in one interface, with editions for community and technical colleges and private K-12 and secondary schools. Technolutions also runs Slate.org, a free service that connects students, high school counsellors and colleges during the admissions process. The original article listed “Slate” twice; the second entry described Slate.org’s counsellor features, so we have merged them.

9. TargetX (Liaison)

TargetX is now part of Liaison, whose products also include centralised application services (CAS), enrolment marketing and analytics. TargetX is a recruitment and retention CRM built on Salesforce for higher education, covering recruitment and admissions, marketing and communications, student engagement and reporting.

10. Embark

Embark has provided online application and assessment software since 1995, as the original article said. It serves undergraduate and graduate admissions, fellowship, scholarship and grant programmes, primary and secondary schools, music programmes and study-abroad programmes. Embark says it has powered more than 17 million online applications; the original article’s “14 million” figure is out of date.

11. Ellucian Recruiting and Admissions

Ellucian’s recruiting and admissions solution (Ellucian Recruit, which the original article listed as Ellucian CRM Recruit) is part of Ellucian’s student platform for higher education. Ellucian says it helps institutions engage prospective students early, simplify the application process, show cost transparency and deliver a smooth admissions experience. It makes most sense for colleges already using Ellucian’s student systems.

12. VenturEd Solutions (formerly Senior Systems)

Senior Systems’ website now redirects to VenturEd Solutions, which offers an integrated platform for K-12 private schools covering admissions, financial aid, enrolment, tuition and billing, payments, a student information system and reporting. The original article listed Senior Systems’ Ascendance database; VenturEd’s site does not use that name, so ask the vendor which products replace it.

Removed since our earlier version

  • MyClassCampus: its website now redirects to Teachmint, whose site focuses on connected classroom technology, so we could not confirm that the MyClassCampus admissions ERP is still sold.
  • SMART School Management: its website showed a blank page, so we could not confirm the product is still available.
  • Slate (second entry): merged into the Technolutions Slate entry above.

Frequently asked questions

What is enrollment management software?

It is software that manages the admissions funnel from enquiry to enrolled student, including applications, documents, reviews, decisions, deposits or fees, and communication with applicants and families.

What is the difference between an admissions CRM and a student information system?

An admissions CRM manages prospective students and applicants. A student information system (SIS) manages enrolled students: classes, attendance, grades and records. Admitted applicants are passed from one to the other.

Can small schools use these tools?

Yes. Several K-12 tools are designed for small private schools. Very small schools can also start with online forms and a spreadsheet, then move to dedicated software as applications grow.

How should applicant data be protected?

Applications contain sensitive personal information. Check where the vendor stores data, how access is controlled, and how it complies with laws such as India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, or the EU’s GDPR.

For related software, see our guides to accreditation management software and CRM systems.

Product details were checked in October 2026 against each vendor’s official website. Education software changes owners often, so confirm details and local suitability with the vendor before you buy.
