Fact-Checking Policy

On this page
  1. Sources we use
  2. What we check
  3. When we can’t verify something
  4. Keeping articles current

Readers rely on eDefines for practical information, so we check facts before we publish. This page explains how.

Sources we use

  • Original sources first: official websites, government notifications, company announcements, published research and primary documents.
  • Government documents and procedures, such as PAN, Aadhaar, passports and taxes: we check the steps, fees and eligibility against the official portal at the time of writing.
  • Products and services: features and prices come from the provider’s own pages. Prices change often, so we describe them as correct at the time of writing.
  • Quotes are attributed to the person who said them, with the source where possible.

What we check

  • Names, dates, numbers, prices and statistics
  • Step-by-step instructions, so they actually work
  • Claims about health, money or legal matters
  • That headlines and summaries match the article

When we can’t verify something

If we can’t confirm a claim from a reliable source, we either leave it out or say clearly that it is unconfirmed. We don’t present rumours or estimates as facts.

Keeping articles current

Information goes out of date. We review popular and practical articles and update them when rules, prices or facts change. Meaningful updates are shown with an “Updated” date.
