Quick answer: Windscribe is still available in October 2026 from Windscribe Limited, a company registered in Ontario, Canada. It offers one of the more generous free plans, 10 GB of data a month once you confirm your email, and paid Pro plans with unlimited data and unlimited devices. Its apps are open source. In April 2025, a Greek court dismissed criminal charges against its founder after Windscribe showed it had no user logs to produce.

Windscribe VPN Review & Test

Windscribe suits people starting out with a VPN, as well as people moving from another service who want more control. This review describes it from Windscribe’s own website, privacy policy and terms, and from published reporting. We have not tested the service ourselves. An earlier version of this article said Windscribe “is safe to use and has no leaks” and could bypass Netflix’s restrictions. Neither claim had a named source, so we have removed them.

The original article argued that NordVPN offers more servers and features. That comparison is still worth making if you are choosing a VPN provider.

Windscribe at a glance (October 2026)

  • Company: Windscribe Limited, registered in Ontario, Canada, with its office in Toronto. Its terms are governed by Ontario law.
  • Free plan: 10 GB of data a month after you sign up and confirm your email.
  • Network: servers in more than 69 countries, according to Windscribe’s features and pricing pages. The original article said 480+ servers in 66 countries.
  • Devices: unlimited, on free and paid plans. Windscribe’s pricing page adds that account sharing is not allowed.
  • Protocols: WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, plus Stealth and WStunnel modes for networks that block VPNs. The original article listed only OpenVPN.
  • Open source: Windscribe says its apps are open source.

Pricing (as of October 2026)

As of October 2026, per Windscribe’s pricing page (US dollars; prices shown in India may differ):

Plan Price shown What you get
Free $0 10 GB a month with a confirmed email
Pro, monthly $9.00 a month Unlimited data, all locations
Pro, yearly $69 a year ($5.75 a month) Unlimited data, all locations
Build a Plan $1 per location a month, $3 minimum Chosen locations, each adding 10 GB to your monthly allowance (up to 7 locations)

Windscribe accepts credit cards, PayPal, cryptocurrency and local payment methods, and it offers a way to pay in cash. The original article’s 2020 yearly price ($49, or $4.08 a month) is out of date. The monthly price of $9 has not changed.

The original article set out how the free plan differs from Pro. The main points still hold: the free plan has a monthly data cap and access to fewer locations, while Pro unlocks all locations and unlimited data. Check Windscribe’s location list for which countries are free.

Privacy: what Windscribe keeps

Windscribe’s privacy policy is written in plain language, which the original article praised, and it is specific:

  • Kept with your account: the total data you transferred in the current 30-day period and the time of your last activity. Windscribe uses these to enforce free-plan limits and prevent abuse.
  • Not stored: a history of VPN sessions, your source IP address or the sites you visit.
  • Held only while connected: your VPN username, connection time and data transferred, kept in the server’s memory and discarded when you disconnect.
  • Counted centrally: the number of simultaneous connections, to stop account sharing.

Windscribe also says its servers run from RAM disks that store no identifying data, and it publishes transparency reports.

Canada, the Five Eyes and the Greek court case

Canada is a member of the Five Eyes intelligence-sharing alliance. The original article spent several paragraphs on what that could mean for a Canadian VPN. The practical point is simpler: a provider can only hand over data it actually keeps.

Windscribe’s no-logs claim was tested in court. Greek authorities traced an intrusion to the IP address of a Windscribe server in Finland and brought criminal charges against Windscribe’s founder, Yegor Sak, personally. Windscribe had no data that could identify the user. The charges were dismissed on 11 April 2025, according to Windscribe’s announcement, which Tom’s Guide and other outlets reported. Tom’s Guide also noted that Windscribe’s most recent independent audit was carried out in 2024.

Features Windscribe documents today

  • R.O.B.E.R.T.: server-side blocking of ads, trackers, malware and any IPs or domains you choose, on all your devices.
  • Split tunnelling in the apps, and static IPs and port forwarding for remote access.
  • Config generator: create OpenVPN, IKEv2 or WireGuard settings for routers and other devices.
  • ScribeForce: team accounts with central billing.
  • Apps: Windows, macOS, Linux, Android, iOS, browser extensions and TV apps.

The original article said Windscribe allows torrenting; check its current terms for the rules that apply today. A VPN hides your IP address from other peers, but it does not make sharing copyrighted files legal, and Canada has its own copyright rules. Streaming platforms block VPN servers from time to time, so treat streaming access as “may work”.

Pros and cons

Pros

  • 10 GB a month free with a confirmed email.
  • Unlimited devices on every plan.
  • Specific, plain-language privacy policy, open-source apps and a court case that supported its no-logs claim.
  • Flexible Build a Plan option.

Cons

  • Canadian jurisdiction, a Five Eyes country, which some privacy buyers avoid.
  • Monthly Pro price is high compared with the yearly plan.
  • The free plan’s data cap limits streaming and large downloads.

For other free VPNs, see our reviews of Proton VPN and TunnelBear. VPN legality varies by country. In India, directions issued in April 2022 by the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) require VPN providers to keep customer records for five years.
