Quick answer: “Advocacy software” covers three different things: tools that help nonprofits rally supporters and raise money, tools that manage members of associations and clubs, and tools that turn happy customers or employees into advocates for a business. Most products on our original list were nonprofit fundraising and membership systems. As of October 2026, 12 of them are still available, including DonorPerfect, Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT, Bloomerang, Keela, Network for Good, GiveSmart (which now includes MobileCause) and ReferenceEdge for customer advocacy. Three have shut down, been folded into another brand or lost their websites.

Whatever kind of advocacy you mean, the software does the same basic job: it keeps a record of your supporters, helps you communicate with them, and makes it easy for them to act, whether that means donating, renewing a membership, attending an event or recommending your product to a peer. Political campaigners and marketers use similar tools to engage their audiences.
Three kinds of advocacy software
- Nonprofit fundraising and supporter management: donor databases, online giving, events and email, used by charities, NGOs and churches. Most of this list falls here.
- Membership and association management: member records, renewals, dues, events and member portals for associations, chambers of commerce and clubs.
- Customer and employee advocacy: tools that organise customer references and reviews, or help employees share company content on social media.
Our original article opened with survey figures on employee advocacy (88% and 77% of respondents). It did not name the survey, and we could not trace it, so we have removed those numbers.
How to choose advocacy software
- Be clear which kind you need. A donor database will not run customer reference programmes, and an association system may be overkill for a small charity.
- Size of organisation: some tools target small and growing nonprofits; others suit large organisations with major-gift teams.
- Online giving and payments: check payment methods, fees and receipts for your country. Several products here are built for the US or Canada; Indian nonprofits should confirm Indian payment methods and receipts that meet tax rules before buying.
- Accounting: donations must reach your books. Some products include fund accounting (Aplos) or integrate with accounting software.
- Data protection: supporter data is personal data. Ask where it is stored, and check consent and unsubscribe features.

The 12 tools in detail
1. DonorPerfect
DonorPerfect is fundraising software for nonprofit donor management. Its site highlights donor records, grant and gift tracking, moves management (planning contact with major donors) and mass mailing. As the original article described, it brings contacts, donations, receipts, fundraising campaigns and email into one system with dashboards and reports. It serves the US, Canada, Australia and other countries.
2. Blackbaud Raiser’s Edge NXT
Blackbaud’s main donor management product is Raiser’s Edge NXT, which Blackbaud now describes as AI-powered. It helps nonprofits find new supporters and identify potential in their existing donor database with cultivation tools. Our original article listed “Blackbaud Fundraising”; Raiser’s Edge NXT is Blackbaud’s current donor management product.
3. Network for Good (now part of Bonterra)
Network for Good is now a Bonterra product; networkforgood.com redirects to Bonterra’s site. Bonterra says Network for Good helps small and growing nonprofits raise more with AI fundraising tools, donor management and expert coaching, which matches the coaching-plus-software approach the original article described.
4. Bloomerang
Bloomerang sells three linked products for nonprofits: Bloomerang Fundraising, Bloomerang CRM (focused on engaging and retaining donors) and Bloomerang Volunteer. Its feature list includes donation forms, text fundraising, auctions, event management, peer-to-peer fundraising, major gifts and grant management. The original article’s point still applies: it is built around donor engagement, helping staff see each donor’s history and decide when to get back in touch.
5. Keela
Keela is a fundraising CRM for nonprofits with donor management, a single record of each contact, and built-in email marketing. Its site has versions for the USA, Canada and Australia. The original article called Keela “the first ever” nonprofit CRM of its kind; we have removed that unverified claim.
6. GiveSmart (including MobileCause)
MobileCause was acquired by Momentive Software in July 2021 and merged into GiveSmart, which is part of Momentive Software; mobilecause.com now redirects to GiveSmart. GiveSmart lists text-to-donate, online and recurring giving, peer-to-peer fundraising, mobile bidding and silent auctions, and event fundraising. Existing MobileCause users still have a login under GiveSmart.
7. Member365
Member365 is cloud-based membership management software for associations and nonprofits. It includes a membership CRM with automated renewals and member records, event registration and ticketing, payment collection, and member engagement tools such as online communities.
8. ReferenceEdge (Point of Reference)
ReferenceEdge, from Point of Reference, is customer advocacy software for B2B companies. It helps sales and marketing teams manage customer references, and the company now markets an AI version called ReferenceEdgeAI alongside advocacy services. As the original article noted, it can reward customers for completed reference activities; check the current reward features in a demo.
9. Aplos
Aplos is built for nonprofits and churches. It combines fund accounting, transaction tracking and financial reporting, and adds tools such as bill approval and optional bookkeeping services. It suits smaller organisations that want donations and accounting in one place. Churches comparing tools may also find our guide to worship software useful.
10. ClubExpress
ClubExpress is all-in-one management software for clubs and associations. It covers membership, dues, events, calendars, communication, discussion forums and payments, and includes a custom website and a telephone help desk. A free trial is available.
11. GrowthZone
GrowthZone sells association management software for associations and chambers of commerce, covering membership, events and finances in one place. The company also supports its MemberZone, ChamberMaster and MemberSuite products. The original article called GrowthZone the first such software with a built-in sales funnel; we could not verify that and have removed it.
12. Donor Driven (formerly at donorengine.com)
The donorengine.com address now redirects to Donor Driven, a donor and fundraising management product from Driven (Lifeline Design Inc.) in Toronto, Canada. Its features include a constituent database with a 360-degree view of each donor, event ticketing and peer-to-peer pages, donation forms and payment processing, grant and pledge tracking, text-to-donate, receipting, and email and direct mail campaigns. Membership management is sold separately as Member Driven.
Products removed from our earlier list
- Salsa CRM: Salsa Labs became part of Bonterra, and salsalabs.com now redirects to Bonterra’s homepage, with no Salsa product page. Bonterra’s current products include EveryAction, a CRM and outreach tool for nonprofits.
- Social HorsePower: the employee advocacy tool’s domain now shows a parked page.
- GiveLife: the givelife.com domain is now advertised for sale by a domain broker.
Frequently asked questions
What is advocacy software?
It is software that helps an organisation mobilise supporters. For nonprofits that means managing donors, members and campaigns; for businesses it means organising customer references or employee social sharing.
What is the difference between donor management and membership software?
Donor management software tracks gifts, donors and fundraising campaigns. Membership software tracks members, renewals, dues and member benefits. Associations often need membership software; charities usually need donor management.
What is employee advocacy?
Employee advocacy means employees sharing their company’s content and news through their own social media networks, which can reach people the company’s own accounts do not.
Can political campaigns use these tools?
Some nonprofit CRMs support advocacy campaigns, but election campaigns have their own legal rules on data and donations. Check the law in your country first. For campaign outreach ideas, see our guide on advertising a political campaign.
If you need a general customer database rather than a nonprofit one, see our guide to CRM systems, and for fundraising galas and member meetups, our event management software list.
Product details were checked in October 2026 against each vendor’s official website. Features, plans and ownership change, so confirm details with the vendor before you buy.
