Quick answer: IPVanish is still sold in October 2026. It is a US-based VPN owned by Ziff Davis, the media and internet company that also owns StrongVPN. IPVanish now comes in three tiers (Essential, Complete and Advanced), all allowing unlimited devices, and it has passed independent no-logs audits in 2022 (Leviathan Security Group) and 2025 (Schellman). Buyers who care about trust should also know that, in 2016, under earlier owners, IPVanish handed customer information to US investigators despite a no-logs promise.

This review is based on IPVanish’s website, privacy policy and published audit announcements, plus reporting on its history. We have not tested the service ourselves. An earlier version of this article called IPVanish “one of the most efficient products that we’ve ever reviewed” and quoted speed tests (38 ms ping, 82.68 Mbps download) and Netflix results without a source. We have removed those claims.
What a VPN does
When you connect through a virtual private network (VPN), your traffic travels through an encrypted tunnel to the VPN company’s server. Someone snooping on a cafĂ© Wi-Fi network cannot read it, and websites see the VPN server’s IP address instead of yours. Your internet service provider (ISP) can see that you are using a VPN but not what you do inside the tunnel. A VPN does not make you anonymous, and it moves the trust you place in your ISP onto the VPN company, which is why ownership and logging matter.
Who owns IPVanish?
- Today: IPVanish’s website describes it as “a Ziff Davis company”, and its privacy policy names Ziff Davis, Inc. for international data transfers. Its App Store listing names IPVanish, Inc. as the seller.
- History: IPVanish was started in 2012 by Mudhook Media, part of Highwinds Network Group in Florida. The content delivery network StackPath bought Highwinds, including IPVanish, in 2017. J2 Global bought it in 2019; J2’s digital media business is now Ziff Davis.
- The 2016 logging case: In 2018, the news site TorrentFreak reported that in 2016, under Highwinds, IPVanish had given the US Department of Homeland Security information that helped identify a customer, although its policy said it never logged usage. StackPath’s then chief executive said no logs existed at the time it acquired the company.
Plans and pricing (as of October 2026)
As of October 2026, per IPVanish’s pricing page (US dollars; prices in India may differ):
| Tier | 2-year plan (first term) | 1-year plan (first year) | Monthly |
|---|---|---|---|
| Essential | $57.36 ($2.39 a month) | $46.68 ($3.89 a month) | $14.99 |
| Complete | $74.16 ($3.09 a month) | $57.48 ($4.79 a month) | $15.99 |
| Advanced | $86.16 ($3.59 a month) | $64.68 ($5.39 a month) | $17.99 |
- Essential: the VPN, Threat Protection (blocking of ads, trackers and malicious sites), 3 GB of eSIM data, live chat and unlimited devices.
- Complete: adds antivirus and phone support.
- Advanced: adds 1 TB of cloud storage, a secure browser and extra eSIM data.
These are introductory prices. IPVanish’s renewal page says two-year plans renew yearly, and lists Essential at $99.99 a year on renewal, so compare renewal prices before you commit. The pricing page shows a 30-day money-back guarantee on longer plans. The original article listed $10 a month, $26.99 for three months and $77.99 a year; those prices are out of date.
Features IPVanish documents today
- Servers: more than 3,200 servers in over 150 locations, according to its App Store listing.
- Unlimited devices: the original article praised IPVanish for 10 simultaneous connections. It now allows unlimited devices on every plan.
- Protocols and encryption: WireGuard, OpenVPN and IKEv2, with AES-256 encryption, as the original article noted.
- Kill switch and split tunnelling: both are listed among its features.
- Double Hop: routes traffic through two servers.
- Apps: Windows, Mac, Linux, Chrome OS, Android, iOS, Apple TV, Fire TV and routers.
- SOCKS5 proxy: the original article highlighted a free SOCKS5 proxy. We could not confirm on IPVanish’s current pages whether it is still included, so check before relying on it.
Privacy, logging and audits
IPVanish’s privacy policy says it does not collect, monitor or log your browsing activity while you are connected, and that it therefore has no browsing records to hand over in response to requests. It does keep account and payment details, and its apps keep diagnostic connection logs on your own device, which support staff can see only if you share them.
- 2022: Leviathan Security Group carried out a no-logs audit, which IPVanish announced in April 2022.
- 2025: Schellman Compliance finalised a second no-logs audit on 21 February 2025, and IPVanish published it in April 2025. Coverage of the audit reported that auditors found no evidence of user activity or metadata logging on its servers.
These audits were carried out under Ziff Davis ownership, after the 2016 incident. An audit shows how systems were set up when they were checked. It does not guarantee how the service will behave in future.
Torrenting, streaming and India
The original article said IPVanish places no restrictions on BitTorrent. A VPN hides your IP address from other peers, but it does not make sharing copyrighted files legal. Streaming services block VPN servers from time to time, and getting around a service’s regional licence can break its terms of use.
In April 2022, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) told VPN providers to keep customer records for five years. Several large providers removed their physical servers from India in response; check IPVanish’s location list for its current Indian options. VPN legality varies by country.
For comparisons, see our reviews of its sister brand StrongVPN, of ExpressVPN and of Private Internet Access, which also allows unlimited devices.
