Quick answer: Product lifecycle management (PLM) software keeps every part, bill of materials (BOM), drawing, specification and engineering change for a product in one controlled system, from idea to retirement. As of October 2026, enterprise PLM leaders include Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Dassault Systèmes ENOVIA, SAP PLM and Oracle Fusion Cloud PLM (successor to Oracle Agile PLM); cloud options include Arena (a PTC company), Autodesk Fusion Manage and Aras Innovator; Autodesk Vault and PDXpert suit engineering teams wanting simpler data management; and Delogue and Bamboo Rose serve fashion and retail.

Without PLM, product information lives in CAD folders, spreadsheets and email, and nobody is sure which revision is current. PLM software gives engineering, manufacturing, quality, purchasing and suppliers a single source of truth. It controls revisions, routes engineering change orders for approval, manages BOMs, links documents and compliance data to parts, and often connects to CAD tools and ERP systems.
We first published this list as “Top 15 Best Product Lifecycle Management Software (PLM Software)” in 2020. When we checked every product again in October 2026, several had changed: Oracle now leads with Fusion Cloud PLM, Autodesk’s cloud PLM is called Fusion Manage, Omnify’s website redirects to Arena, and three products could not be confirmed as PLM software sold under the same name. The list below has 12 verified options.
How to choose PLM software
- Your industry. Discrete manufacturers (machinery, electronics, automotive, aerospace) need strong BOM, change and configuration management. Fashion and retail need tech packs, sampling, supplier collaboration and costing, which is why apparel-specific tools such as Delogue and Bamboo Rose exist.
- CAD integration. If designs live in a particular CAD system, check the depth of integration. Vendors that also make CAD (Siemens, PTC, Dassault, Autodesk) integrate best with their own tools; others connect to several.
- Cloud, SaaS or on-premise. SaaS options (Arena, Fusion Manage, Windchill+, Teamcenter X) reduce IT work. Regulated or defence work may require on-premise or self-hosted deployment (PDXpert is self-hosted, and Teamcenter and Windchill can run on-premise).
- Scale and cost. Enterprise PLM projects can take months and need implementation partners. Smaller companies may get faster value from a lighter tool.
- Quality and compliance. Medical device, aerospace and regulated industries should check built-in quality management (CAPA, non-conformance) and support for the standards they follow.
- ERP connection. Released BOMs must reach purchasing and production. Ask how the PLM integrates with your ERP, such as SAP, Oracle or Microsoft Dynamics.

The 12 PLM tools in detail
1. Oracle Fusion Cloud PLM (formerly led by Agile PLM)
The original article listed Oracle Agile PLM, Oracle’s long-running on-premise PLM product. Oracle’s PLM page now leads with Oracle Fusion Cloud Product Lifecycle Management and says it supports organisations moving from legacy PLM tools, including Oracle Agile PLM, to a cloud-based enterprise product record. Fusion Cloud PLM covers product design structure, standardised change workflows, BOM and compliance checks, quality issue prediction and corrective actions, with built-in AI agents. If you still run Agile PLM, plan your migration path with Oracle.
2. Autodesk Vault
Autodesk Vault is Autodesk’s product data management (PDM) software for organising design data, tracking revisions and controlling engineering documents, especially for users of Autodesk’s CAD tools. Autodesk still publishes the Vault Mobile app, updated in September 2026. Autodesk’s website blocked our automated checks, so confirm current editions and features with Autodesk or a reseller; the original article’s feature list (CAD integration, shared views, concurrent design, data reuse) describes Vault’s established role.
3. Autodesk Fusion Manage
The original article called this product “Autodesk Fusion”. Autodesk’s cloud PLM has been renamed several times (PLM 360, Fusion Lifecycle, Fusion 360 Manage) and is now Fusion Manage. Autodesk’s help pages describe it as a separate product for product lifecycle management that can be used with the Fusion design platform or on its own. It includes a PLM dashboard, workspaces for components, drawings, change orders, change requests and problem reports, item numbering, and workflow and lifecycle management for changes and revisions.
4. PTC Windchill
PTC Windchill is an enterprise PLM system for discrete manufacturers. It covers multi-CAD product data management, BOM management and transformation from engineering to manufacturing BOMs, change management, configuration of product variants, and browser-based 3D visualisation. It can run on-premise, in the PTC Cloud, or as Windchill+, PTC’s SaaS version. As the original article said, it suits companies of various sizes managing complex product development.
5. PDXpert
PDXpert is a fast-to-adopt PLM system for electronics and mechanical product companies. It is self-hosted on your own infrastructure and covers BOMs, documents and engineering changes with electronic approvals, revision-controlled files, access permissions and end-to-end traceability. It is a good fit for smaller engineering teams that do not need an enterprise PLM rollout. A trial installation is available from its website.
6. Siemens Teamcenter
Teamcenter from Siemens connects people and processes across the product lifecycle with a single source of product data, using digital twins to link designs, systems, software, simulation and visualisation. Siemens offers it on-premise, on a cloud provider of your choice, or as Teamcenter X, a SaaS service run by Siemens. The original article’s description of simulation management and cross-domain design (electronic and mechanical CAD) still reflects Teamcenter’s focus on complex products.
7. Bamboo Rose
Bamboo Rose sells TotalPLM, an end-to-end platform for retail supply chains covering planning and merchandising, visual collaboration, product development, supplier relationship management, sourcing, purchase order management and global trade management, with AI-based decision intelligence. It serves fashion and apparel, food and consumables, and general merchandise retailers. The original article called it a B2B marketplace; Bamboo Rose now presents itself as a PLM and supply chain platform.
8. Dassault Systèmes ENOVIA
ENOVIA is the collaboration and lifecycle management brand on Dassault Systèmes’ 3DEXPERIENCE platform, used alongside its CATIA and SOLIDWORKS design tools. The original article listed change and configuration management, materials management, design management, IP protection and product planning. Dassault’s website was down for maintenance when we checked in October 2026, so confirm current ENOVIA packages and capabilities there or with a Dassault partner.
9. Aras Innovator
Aras Innovator is an open, adaptable PLM and digital thread platform. Aras offers it as a platform-as-a-service and promotes a subscription model that includes upgrades, and its low-code development environment and library of pre-built apps let companies tailor PLM to their processes. It covers change management, integrated engineering and manufacturing BOMs, quality, compliance and digital twin use cases, matching the parts, documents, configuration management and quality capabilities the original article listed.
10. Delogue PLM
Delogue is a PLM platform for fashion, apparel and lifestyle brands, including workwear, outdoor, home textiles, footwear and accessories. It replaces fragmented spreadsheets and email with one product development workflow shared with suppliers, with traceability features and integrations. Delogue says more than 300 fashion and lifestyle brands use it. As the original article said, it is aimed squarely at lifestyle and fashion companies.
11. SAP PLM
SAP’s PLM portfolio helps companies define, develop, deliver and manage products while building a data-driven digital thread for each product. It includes SAP Integrated Product Development, an engineering control center that links design data with business data, an AI product design assistant, and product compliance and sustainability tools within SAP S/4HANA. It is the natural choice for companies already running SAP ERP.
12. Arena (a PTC company)
The original article listed Omnify Empower PLM. The Omnify website now redirects to Arena, so we have replaced it with Arena. Arena, now part of PTC, is a cloud-native PLM and quality management system (QMS) covering item and BOM management, engineering change management, documents, projects, supply chain collaboration and quality management, with a government edition. Arena says more than 1,500 companies use it. A trial is available on request.
Removed since our earlier version
- Fastreact: now part of Coats Digital, which sells FastReactPlan as production planning software for fashion manufacturers. That is production planning rather than PLM, so we have removed it.
- FusePLM: its website blocked our automated checks in October 2026, so we could not verify the product. Readers can check it directly.
- CMPRO: CMstat’s website now lists configuration management products called EPOCH CM and EPOCH DM, not CMPRO, so we could not confirm CMPRO is still sold under that name.
- Omnify Empower PLM: its website redirects to Arena, which now takes its place in the list.
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between PLM and PDM?
Product data management (PDM), such as Autodesk Vault, mainly controls CAD files and revisions for engineers. PLM covers the wider lifecycle and more teams: BOMs, changes, quality, compliance, suppliers and links to ERP.
What is a bill of materials (BOM)?
A BOM is the structured list of every part, sub-assembly and material needed to make a product. Engineering BOMs describe the design; manufacturing BOMs describe how it is built.
Do small manufacturers need PLM?
Once more than a few people change designs or several suppliers build your parts, uncontrolled revisions become costly. Lighter tools such as PDXpert, Arena or Fusion Manage are designed for smaller teams.
Is PLM the same as ERP?
No. PLM manages how a product is designed and changed. ERP manages buying, making, selling and accounting for it. The two exchange released BOMs and item data.
