Quick answer: Surfshark is still sold in October 2026. It is run by Surfshark B.V. in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, and since 2022 it has been part of the same group as NordVPN (Nord Security), though the two services operate separately. Its stand-out feature is still unlimited simultaneous devices. It has more than 4,500 servers, and Deloitte has reviewed its no-logs policy twice. Long-term plans are cheap, but check the renewal price.

The key question with any VPN is value: do you get what you pay for? This review answers it from Surfshark’s own website and published audit reports. We have not tested the service ourselves. An earlier version of this article reported average speeds by region (19 Mbps in Asia, 62 Mbps in North America, 40 Mbps in Europe), 4K streaming and Netflix results from unnamed testers. We have removed them because they could not be sourced and would be years out of date.
What a VPN does
When you switch on a virtual private network (VPN), it creates an encrypted tunnel between your device and a server run by the VPN company. Your web traffic passes through that tunnel, so websites see the VPN server’s IP address instead of yours. That makes it harder for advertisers and data brokers to track you, and stops your internet service provider (ISP) from seeing which sites you visit.
VPNs are useful, but they do not solve every security and privacy problem. They do not stop phishing, malware or tracking by sites you log in to.
Who owns Surfshark?
- Company: Surfshark’s website names Surfshark B.V., registered in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. Surfshark moved its base from the British Virgin Islands to the Netherlands in 2021.
- Group: In February 2022, Nord Security, the company behind NordVPN, announced a merger with Surfshark. The two brands came under one holding structure, but they say they run separate infrastructure and products.
- Jurisdiction: As a Dutch company, Surfshark is subject to EU data-protection law.
Pricing (as of October 2026)
Surfshark now sells three tiers rather than a single VPN plan. As of October 2026, per Surfshark’s pricing page, on the default 24-month option with 3 extra months (US dollars; VAT may apply, and prices shown in India may differ):
| Plan | Price shown | First-term total |
|---|---|---|
| Starter | $2.49 a month | $67.23 for 27 months |
| One | $2.79 a month | $75.33 for 27 months |
| One+ | $4.49 a month | $121.23 for 27 months |
All three include the same VPN features and unlimited devices. The higher tiers bundle extra Surfshark security products. Monthly and 1-year plans are also available. Every plan has a 30-day money-back guarantee. The 2-year plan renews annually at the regular price after the first term, so read the renewal terms before you pay.
The original article listed $11.95 a month, $71.88 a year and $47.76 for two years. Those were 2020 prices and have been removed. Its advice still stands: if you are unsure, use the money-back period to check that Surfshark works on your devices before you commit.
Features Surfshark documents today
- Unlimited devices: one account covers as many devices as you like.
- Bypasser: Surfshark’s split-tunnelling tool, which the original article called by its old name, Whitelister. It lets chosen apps and websites skip the VPN, which helps with sites that block VPN connections. Reverse Bypasser does the opposite, sending only selected apps through the VPN.
- Dynamic MultiHop: routes traffic through two VPN servers, with entry and exit points you choose. The original article described this as MultiHop.
- CleanWeb: blocks ads, trackers and malicious sites.
- Kill switch: cuts internet access if the VPN connection drops.
- NoBorders and obfuscated servers: help the VPN work on networks that restrict VPN use.
- Static and dedicated IPs: for remote access or for services that expect the same IP address each time.
- Network: Surfshark’s features page lists more than 4,500 servers. The original article said 1,700 servers in about 60 to 65 countries.
The original article said Surfshark had servers in China. Surfshark’s apps may help on restrictive networks through NoBorders, but whether VPNs work in a particular country, and whether they are legal there, varies. Check local rules.
Privacy and audits
Surfshark says it does not log your browsing activity. Deloitte has carried out independent assurance procedures on its no-logs policy twice. The first was in late 2022, with results published in January 2023, and the second report was released in June 2025. The checks covered server configuration, deployment processes and privacy settings. The full reports are available to Surfshark users in their accounts. An assurance review describes systems at the time they were checked, not a permanent guarantee.
Surfshark and India
In April 2022, the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued directions requiring VPN providers to keep customer records for five years. Surfshark said it would shut down its physical servers in India and offer virtual Indian servers physically located in Singapore and London. VPN legality and rules vary by country.
Beyond the VPN
Many VPN companies now sell more than a VPN. Surfshark’s own range includes Surfshark Antivirus, Surfshark Search, Surfshark Alert (breach alerts) and Alternative ID, plus related products such as Incogni (data-broker removal) and Saily (eSIM data). The original article compared this with other providers’ extras. Some of those have changed: TunnelBear’s RememBear password manager has been discontinued, and ProtonMail is now Proton Mail. For a provider that bundles a VPN with encrypted email, see our Proton VPN review. The original article also mentioned Hotspot Shield; see our Hotspot Shield VPN review.
If you are comparing it with its sister brand, read our NordVPN review, or browse our list of VPN software for Windows.
