Quick answer: VyprVPN is still sold in October 2026, but it is no longer made by Golden Frog. Its website now says it is made by Certida, LLC, a US company that review sites report bought the service in 2023. VyprVPN offers its own Chameleon protocol for networks that block VPNs, WireGuard, a kill switch and up to 10 simultaneous connections. Its no-logs policy was independently audited in 2018, before the change of owner, and we found no newer published audit.
VyprVPN made its name under Golden Frog, a Switzerland-based company that campaigned on online privacy. This review describes VyprVPN from its own website and published reporting. We have not tested the service ourselves. An earlier version of this article gave scores out of 10 (for example “Speed: 7/10” and “Streaming: 9/10”), an average speed of 44 Mbps and streaming results for named channels in several countries. None of these had a named source, so we have removed them. We have also removed the claim that VyprVPN is “100% safe”, which no VPN can promise.

Who owns VyprVPN now?
When this article was first written, VyprVPN was run by Golden Frog, which was based in Switzerland. VyprVPN’s website now says it is made by Certida, LLC, and carries Certida’s copyright. Comparitech and other review sites report that Certida bought VyprVPN in 2023 and that it is based in Texas, USA. We could not find a primary announcement of the sale, so treat the date and location as reported rather than confirmed.
The change matters for two reasons. The service’s jurisdiction is no longer Swiss. And the 2018 audit described below was carried out under the previous owner.
Logging policy and the 2018 audit
VyprVPN’s logging history is a good example of why audits matter:
- Before late 2018: VyprVPN kept connection logs for 30 days, including connection start and stop times, the VyprVPN IP address used and the amount of data transferred. The original article listed these.
- November 2018: Golden Frog announced that VyprVPN had become a no-log service. It published an audit by Leviathan Security Group, dated 9 November 2018, which checked that no personally identifiable information was being collected. VyprVPN called itself the first publicly audited no-log VPN. The original article dated this change to March 2019; the audit and announcement were in November 2018.
- Today: VyprVPN’s homepage says it does no data collection and no logging of activity, and that it is “one of the first independently audited, no-log VPN providers”. We did not find a newer audit published since the 2018 report or since the change of ownership.
An eight-year-old audit carried out under a previous owner says little about how the service runs today. If independent verification matters to you, weigh that.
Chameleon: for networks that block VPNs
Some governments, companies and internet service providers use deep packet inspection (DPI) to spot and block VPN traffic. VyprVPN’s answer is Chameleon, a protocol it developed itself. Chameleon scrambles the metadata of OpenVPN packets so that DPI does not recognise them, while keeping 256-bit OpenVPN encryption underneath.
- VyprVPN says Chameleon helps users in or travelling to countries such as Russia, India, Turkey and Iran.
- Chameleon is included in every account and works in VyprVPN’s apps for Windows, Mac, Android, iOS and routers. The original article said Chameleon was not available on iOS; that has changed.
- A “Chameleon with Smart IP” option is designed for countries with very strict censorship.
Using a VPN to get around restrictions can be illegal in some countries. VPN legality varies, so check local law before relying on any VPN abroad.

Streaming, torrenting and devices
- Streaming: VyprVPN offers apps for Apple TV, Fire TV and Android TV and markets itself for streaming. Streaming platforms block VPN servers from time to time, so treat access as “may work”. Getting around a service’s regional licence can break its terms of use.
- Torrenting: the original article said VyprVPN allows P2P traffic but asks users to follow its terms of service and local copyright law. VyprVPN’s kill switch description mentions protecting P2P traffic. A VPN does not make sharing copyrighted files legal.
- Devices: apps for Windows, Mac, Android and iOS, the TV platforms above and routers.
VyprVPN and India
VyprVPN names India among the countries where Chameleon can help with VPN blocking. Separately, in April 2022 the Indian Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-In) issued directions requiring VPN providers to keep customer records for five years, and several large providers removed their physical servers from India. Check how any provider handles Indian locations before relying on them.
