Quick answer: Vietnam’s most beautiful beaches include My Khe and Non Nuoc in Da Nang, An Bang near Hoi An, Nha Trang’s city beach and the quieter Doc Let to its north, Mui Ne, Quy Nhon, Lang Co, Long Beach and Sao Beach on Phu Quoc, and An Hai on the Con Dao islands. Season matters more than anything: the central coast is wettest from about September to December, while the south, including Phu Quoc and Mui Ne, is driest from about November or December to April.

Best Beaches In Vietnam

With more than 3,000 km of coastline, Vietnam has beaches for every kind of trip, from busy city beaches with promenades and seafood restaurants to quiet island coves. But the coast also faces monsoon rains and tropical storms, and different parts of the country have their wet seasons at different times. Choosing the right beach for the month you travel is the key to a good trip.

One more thing has changed recently. On 1 July 2025 Vietnam merged its provinces, cutting their number from 63 to 34. Several beaches below now sit in a different province from the one named in older guides and maps, and we have given both names where it helps.

When to go: Vietnam’s beach seasons

Region Beaches Wettest months (approx.) Driest months (approx.)
Central coast Lang Co, Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon September to December (into January around Da Nang) February to August
South-central coast Nha Trang, Doc Let Autumn and early winter, roughly September to December Roughly January to August
South Mui Ne, Con Dao May to October November to April
Phu Quoc Long Beach, Sao Beach April to November December to March
North Ha Long Bay area May to October November to April (cool in winter)

These are averages based on long-term climate records; actual weather varies from year to year. Vietnam is also hit by several tropical storms or typhoons most years, mostly in the second half of the year, so check the forecast before you travel and follow any local warnings. An earlier version of this article said the north’s warm, dry season runs from October to December. The north is in fact driest from about November to April, but it is cool in winter and not a beach destination at that time.

The best beaches in Vietnam

1. Nha Trang City Beach (Khanh Hoa)

Nha Trang is a coastal city on the south-central coast, known for its high-rise hotels, nightlife, resorts and long city beach. The main beach runs alongside Tran Phu Street, the seafront road, and is the centre of the city’s life for both residents and visitors. It is good for families, beach walks and sunbathing, with plenty of hotels and restaurants within easy reach. Nha Trang remains the administrative centre of Khanh Hoa province, which absorbed neighbouring Ninh Thuan in 2025.

2. Doc Let Beach (Khanh Hoa)

Doc Let is a long, white-sand beach about 50 km north of Nha Trang, near Ninh Hoa on the shore of Van Phong Bay. It is lined with casuarina trees and palms, and the water is usually calmer than in the city. It is a good choice for a quieter beach day with family or for anyone wanting to escape the crowds of Nha Trang. Facilities outside the resorts are basic.

3. Jungle Beach (Khanh Hoa)

Jungle Beach is a secluded beach in Ninh Phuoc commune near Ninh Hoa, north of Nha Trang, known for its small eco-style resort of the same name, set between forest and sea. It suits travellers who want a simple, nature-focused stay away from city development. Book accommodation ahead, because there are few other services nearby.

4. An Bang Beach (Hoi An, Da Nang)

An Bang is the most popular beach near Hoi An, about 3 to 4 km from the Old Town and a short bicycle, motorbike or taxi ride away. It has relaxed beach bars, seafood restaurants and sunbeds, and suits both budget and luxury travellers. Hoi An used to be in Quang Nam province, which merged into Da Nang city in 2025. Visit in the drier months, roughly February to August, for calm seas and sunshine.

5. An Hai Beach, Con Dao Islands

The Con Dao islands lie in the East Sea about 230 km from Ho Chi Minh City. Much of the archipelago is protected as Con Dao National Park, which shelters coral reefs, seagrass beds and nesting green and hawksbill turtles. The islands are also known for the prison the French built here, which held many Vietnamese revolutionaries.

An Hai is a beach on the main island, Con Son, close to the small town, with mountains behind it and calm water for swimming in season. Con Dao has an airport with flights from the mainland, and ferries and hydrofoils run from Vung Tau and Soc Trang. Con Dao was part of Ba Ria–Vung Tau province, which merged with Ho Chi Minh City in 2025; it is now a special zone of the city.

6. Long Beach, Phu Quoc

Phu Quoc is Vietnam’s largest island, in the Gulf of Thailand, and Long Beach (Bai Truong) is its longest, a broad stretch of sand along the west coast. It is lined with resorts, restaurants and bars, offers water sports, and faces west, so it is a popular place to watch the sunset. Visit in the dry season, roughly December to March.

Phu Quoc used to be in Kien Giang province, which merged with An Giang in 2025, and the island became a special administrative zone. Since 2014, foreign tourists have been able to visit Phu Quoc visa-free for up to 30 days, as long as they arrive on the island without first entering mainland Vietnam; check the current rules before you travel.

7. Quy Nhon Beach (Gia Lai)

Quy Nhon is a coastal city with a long, curving town beach, a busy fishing community and resorts on the nearby coast. It is less crowded than Nha Trang or Da Nang and is a good place for seafood, swimming and a relaxed resort break. Quy Nhon was the capital of Binh Dinh province, which merged with Gia Lai in 2025, and it is now the administrative centre of the enlarged Gia Lai province.

8. Non Nuoc Beach (Da Nang)

Non Nuoc Beach stretches for about 5 km at the foot of the Marble Mountains, south of central Da Nang. It was one of the first Vietnamese beaches to become known to foreign travellers, and the growth of Da Nang’s tourism has kept it popular. Upmarket resorts line much of the shore, and the beach is a good base for water sports. It is a short walk from the Marble Mountains, a cluster of limestone hills with caves and pagodas.

9. Sao Beach (Bai Sao), Phu Quoc

Sao Beach, on the south-east coast of Phu Quoc, is known for its fine, very white sand, turquoise water and fringe of coconut palms. It is quieter than Long Beach and is a favourite for a relaxing day out, a honeymoon photo or a swim in calm, clear water during the dry season.

10. Mui Ne Beach (Lam Dong)

Mui Ne, near the city of Phan Thiet, became a beach resort in the mid-1990s, when many visitors came to see the total solar eclipse of 24 October 1995. Today it is known for its resorts, its red and white sand dunes and its fishing village. Its steady winds have made it one of Asia’s best-known spots for kitesurfing and windsurfing. Mui Ne was in Binh Thuan province until 2025 and is now part of Lam Dong province.

11. Lang Co Beach (Hue)

Lang Co is a long, curving beach of about 10 km at the foot of the Hai Van Pass, between Hue and Da Nang, with the calm Lap An lagoon behind it. Small seafood restaurants line the area, and the beach is quiet compared with Da Nang. Swim only where conditions are calm, and follow local guidance. Lang Co is in Hue, which became a centrally governed city in 2025. Visit in the drier months, roughly February to August.

An earlier version of this article said lifeguard services make Lang Co safe. We could not confirm lifeguard cover, so that claim has been removed.

12. My Khe Beach (Da Nang)

My Khe is Da Nang’s best-known city beach, close to the city centre, with soft sand, clear water and a long promenade. It regularly appears in lists of Asia’s best beaches. It is busy with local people in the late afternoon and evening, when the heat eases, and quieter at other times. Seafood restaurants and cafés are nearby.

An earlier version of this article described My Khe as a 9 km stretch with a “50 to 70 m” water level. Sources describe the main My Khe section as about 900 m to 1 km long, within a much longer run of beach along Da Nang’s coast, so those figures have been corrected.

Before you travel

  • Visa: Indian citizens need a visa for mainland Vietnam. Vietnam issues e-visas through its official portal (evisa.gov.vn). The Phu Quoc visa exemption covers only the island, and only if you do not pass through immigration elsewhere in Vietnam first. Check the current rules with the Embassy of Vietnam in New Delhi before you book.
  • Weather: plan around the regional wet seasons in the table above, and check typhoon warnings in the second half of the year.
  • Swimming safety: currents can be strong, especially in the wet season. Swim where others swim, follow flags and local warnings, and avoid swimming in rough seas.
