Quick answer: The best-known Kaabil (2017) dialogues include Hrithik Roshan’s “Yeh khel unhone shuru kiya tha, tamasha aap logon ne dekha, khatam main karunga” and “Hamari duniya se zyada andhera toh aapke law and order mein hai”, and the couple’s exchange about whether “two negatives” can make a positive. Below are eight short lines from the film and its trailer, with their meaning.
About Kaabil
Kaabil is a Hindi revenge thriller directed by Sanjay Gupta and produced by Rakesh Roshan under Filmkraft Productions, with dialogues by Sanjay Masoom. Hrithik Roshan plays Rohan Bhatnagar, a visually impaired dubbing artist, and Yami Gautam plays Supriya, who is also visually impaired. Their love story turns into a revenge story after Supriya is attacked by men the police refuse to touch, and Rohan sets out to punish them himself.
When this page was first written, the film was still awaited. The release date it gave, 25 January 2017, turned out to be right: Kaabil came out that day, in a box-office clash with Shah Rukh Khan’s Raees. The original article called it an “extraordinary love story between two blind lovers”. It begins that way, but it is mainly a thriller, and its plot deals with sexual violence and suicide. Best dialogues of Kaabil
The love story
The first half of the film is about Rohan and Supriya meeting and deciding to marry. Their lines play on the idea of darkness and light:
- “Aadmi ka khud pe bharosa uski taakat hoti hai. Tum aur main, hum kamzor nahi hain.”
(A person’s faith in himself is his strength. You and I, we are not weak.) - “Do negatives positive kaise ho sakte hain? Andhera andhere ko roshan toh nahi kar sakta, Rohan.”
(How can two negatives become a positive? Darkness cannot light up darkness, Rohan.) Supriya’s doubt about whether two visually impaired people should marry. - “Lekin andhere mein kisi ka saath ho na, toh andhera kam lag sakta hai.”
(But if you have someone with you in the dark, the darkness can feel less.) Rohan’s reply. - “Aisa lag raha hai ki real life mein bhi do negatives positive banne ja rahe hain.”
(It feels like in real life, too, two negatives are about to make a positive.) - “Tumne meri adhoori zindagi ko poora kiya hai.”
(You have completed my incomplete life.)
The revenge
In the second half, after the police fail them, Rohan’s lines turn into warnings:
- “Hamari duniya se zyada andhera toh aapke law and order mein hai.”
(There is more darkness in your law and order than in our world.) A line aimed at the police who will not act. - “Yeh khel unhone shuru kiya tha, tamasha aap logon ne dekha, khatam main karunga.”
(They started this game, you people watched the show, and I will finish it.) - “Bas ek baat aur. Is game mein koi lifeline nahi hogi, sir.”
(Just one more thing. There will be no lifeline in this game, sir.)
An earlier version of this page also used the name “Asu” in one of these lines; Yami Gautam’s character in the film is Supriya, so the name has been dropped from the quote.
