About the museum
Mother’s Wax Museum opened in November 2014, modelled on the idea of Madame Tussauds in London: life-size wax figures of famous people, posed so that visitors can take photographs with them. It is in New Town, the planned township next to Salt Lake that has grown rapidly over the past two decades, and it occupies the fifth and sixth floors of a building owned by HIDCO, the West Bengal government agency that develops New Town. HIDCO also lists the museum on its website and offers online ticket booking for it.
The museum has more than 50 wax figures. The earlier version of this article said there were about 54; the exact number changes as figures are added or retired.

Published lists of the collection have also included figures from Bengali cinema (Tollywood), literature, science and spirituality.
