About Ramoji Film City

Ramoji Rao, the Telugu media entrepreneur, set up Ramoji Film City in 1996. He brought in the art director Nitish Roy to design the complex. Guinness World Records recognised it in 2005 as the world’s largest film studio complex, and the official website describes the complex as about 2,000 acres. (An earlier version of this article gave the area as “around 1,666 acres” in one place and 2,000 acres in another.)

Ramoji is still a working studio. According to its studio website, it has more than 50 sound stages and more than 300 permanent sets and backlots, and productions such as Baahubali 2, RRR, Pushpa 2 and Kalki 2898 AD have been shot there. The tourist side of the complex has welcomed more than 15 million guests since 1996, according to Ramoji Film City.

Tour packages

Ramoji Film City’s main day packages, as listed on its website in October 2026, are:

  • Ramoji Studio Tour: a guided tour by non-AC bus through the film sets, with the live shows, rides and attractions.
  • Ramoji Star Experience: a premium version of the studio tour with an AC bus, priority access to special attractions, a buffet lunch (vegetarian and non-vegetarian), a welcome chocolate box, a merchandise coupon and a dedicated rain dance space.
  • Ramoji by Night with Dinner and Ramoji Star Experience by Night: evening options with the tour extended into the night; check which dates they run on.

Ramoji Adventure at Sahas, the adventure park inside the complex, is booked separately and offers activities such as a high-rope course, zip line, bungee ejection and archery, according to the official booking site. An earlier version of this article described “Ramoji Sahas” packages; check the current adventure packages on the website.

What to see at Ramoji Film City

  • Film sets: permanent sets used in many films, including the Baahubali set, along with themed areas such as Hawa Mahal, the Mughal Garden, the Sun Fountain, the mythological Bhagavatham set and Kripalu Cave.
  • Ramoji Movie Magic: attractions on how films are made, such as the Action Theatre, Space Yatra, Filmi Duniya and the “Lights, Camera, Action!” blacklight show.
  • Mayalok: a newer attraction about set design and how film sets are created.
  • Live shows: the Wild West Stunt Show and the “Spirit of Ramoji” dance show at Eureka.
  • Fundustan: the children’s zone, with Borasura (the magician’s workshop), rides and games.

Where to stay

Ramoji Film City runs its own hotels inside the complex, ranging from luxury to shared rooms: Sitara (luxury), Tara (comfort), Greens Inn, Vasundhara Villa (family stays), Shantiniketan (budget) and Sahara (shared accommodation). There is also a glamping (tent stay) option. Check the official website for current rates and packages. Staying overnight lets you see more than a single day allows.

How to reach Ramoji Film City

According to Ramoji Film City’s FAQ:

  • From the airport: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport is about 38 km away, roughly an hour by cab.
  • From the railway stations: Nampally and Secunderabad stations are both about 25 km away.
  • By metro: LB Nagar and Nagole metro stations are about 15 km away, and feeder bus services with pick-up and drop run from these stations to Ramoji Film City.
  • Pick-up and drop: Ramoji also offers a paid AC bus pick-up and drop from selected points across Hyderabad, which you can add when you book.

Tips and rules

  • Outside food: not allowed, except baby food. There are restaurants and food courts inside, and you can pre-book meals and snacks online.
  • Cameras: professional photography is prohibited, and cameras beyond standard DSLR specifications (an 18-55 mm lens) or other recording equipment are not permitted.
  • Children’s tickets: go by height, not age. Children under 33 inches enter free.
  • Plan a full day: the studio tour, shows and gardens fill most of a day. Arrive at opening time.
  • Weather: much of the tour is outdoors, so carry water, a cap and sunscreen in the hotter months.

An earlier version of this article said “you should save 3 to 4 days” to see everything and to “set aside 1,000 bucks” per person. Most visitors cover the studio tour in a day, and prices are now higher, so those lines have been removed. It also mentioned a holiday carnival held from 21 April to 5 May 2022; Ramoji runs carnivals and festive events in different seasons, so check the website for current events.
